Intel 82579LM - Error code 10

Hello,

Upon reboot my network card fails to start with error code 10. I have tried disabling and re-enabling, re installing with current drivers and of course reboots all did nothing. Now im trying to download the NVM update utility for 82579LM from Intels site but it says "page not found", this is happening to me for almost all pages on intels site.... I have tried using 3 different browsers but still cannot get to the page. Does anybody by chance have the direct download link for the NVM update tool?

After regular shutdown - Intel 82579LM - This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Hi guys,

Sorry that I create new post but this thread (Intel 82579LM - Error code 10) is little bit different cause LcsFletcher have different problem.

On my motherboard Intel DX79SI, there are 2 adapters. Intel 82574L and problematic Intel 82579LM.

Newest bios 0650 and network driver Intel 82579LM - PROWinx64_19.5

After boot of machine from poweroff state (not unplugged cable just normal Shutdown in Windows), the adapter is in warning state with error "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".

Not very nice workarounds:

  • When I uninstall 82579LM as device from device manager and rescan devices, card is installed again and everything is OK and it continue work properly.
  • Another method is not to shutdown PC, just reboot machine and adapter is OK.
  • Disable adapter and enable it from device manager works.

I tried without succesfull:

  • uninstall with driver and install drivers again
  • disabling Windows to manage powerstate
  • unplug all devices (Nvidia 560TI and Adaptec 5405 raid) boot without them ....
  • resetting CMOS by F9 in Configuration state
  • unplug battery for bios....
  • older and new Intel proset drivers included Microsoft default driver from 2013
  • NVM Update Utility for Intel 82579V  - not works for that adapter
  • Windows Safe mode and .... same operations
  • Finally also reinstalled Windows - same problem

So finally, my adapter is in bad state with Error Code 10 only after boot from shutdown (not reboot)

This is strange, cause I used it for 2 years without this issue.

Masters, I am at the end of my knowledge and google does not help. Pleeeeease .....

i218-LM code 10 after restart without cable

$

I have a system using an Intel i218-LM ethernet controller:

  • Fully patched (as of 16th Feb 2015) Windows 8.1 64-bit
  • Intel driver PROWinx64.exe, Version:19.5, Date:28th Oct 2014.  Appears in Windows as driver v12.12.80.19 dated 29th Sept 2014.

Under normal operation the LAN works correctly.  I can disconnect and re-connect the LAN cable, and each time the LAN connection is re-established.

If I perform a system restart with the LAN cable connected, the LAN is established correctly once Windows boots.

However, if I perform a system restart without a LAN cable connected then I get a Code-10 error in Windows under Device-Manager for the i218-LM controller.  When I re-connect the LAN cable obviously the connection isn't re-established due to the Code-10 error.  If within Device-Manager I disable and then re-enable the i218-LM, the Code-10 error goes away, and the connection is correctly established.

Any ideas?

Modify open source linux driver

Hello,

I am interested in using an intel 10GB network card to move data directly

to and from another PCIe card. This other card supports DMA transfer through a

simple API in its driver.

Can anyone advise me on the best way of doing this? I have not

done any linux driver development before, but I have a lot of programming experience

in C.

Thanks,

Need to change the MAC to match the MAC on the old machine. I have a Pro1000MT installed. Tried change using the ifconfig but will not work. Is there any software that will allow me to change the MAC?

XL710 firmware do not work?

Hi, All,

     I assign XL710 VF to QEMU, and load modified i40evf driver in QEMU, then I encounter the following error in the qemu:

               "Admin queue command never completed"

     and get the following error log in host OS system:

[ 7823.295061] pci 0000:03:02.2: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)

     Then I unload and reload i40e driver in host OS system and encouter the following error:

[ 7856.803922] i40e: Intel(R) Ethernet Connection XL710 Network Driver - version 0.4.21-k

[ 7857.034679] i40e: probe of 0000:03:00.0 failed with error -2

   I debug the i40e driver code and found that the driver call i40evf_asq_send_command to get firmware and api version but the firmware did not write back any information (so the firmware and api version in the above message are both 0). After rebooting the host system, it works again. This problem happens from time to time, and I can't reproduce it at will.

   Before unload and reload the i40e driver, I give the EMP reset command by execute "echo empr > /sys/kernel/debug/i40e/0000\:03\:00.0/command", but it did not fix the problem.

   Dose anyone know why this happen and how to recover from the problem ? Thanks in advance!

  I run on ubuntu 14.10 x86-64 with updated kernel 3.17.6-031706-generic.

Regarding Hard time stamping in Intel NIC

$

Hi,

I am Kuralamudhan Ramakrishnan working in NetApp, Munich. I am currently working in a project to get hardware time stamping between source and destination server using Linux time stamping options. I am using i40e (Driver: Intel(R) Ethernet Connection XL710 Network Driver - version 1.0.11-k) Intel Network Interface Controller. The linux 3.18 support bytestream time stamping, that is Transmit Hardware Timestamping and it doesn't support the Receive Hardware Time stamping for TCP socket. I like to know the vendor specific API's which could support the Hardware timestamping for the TCP packets(like i40e_ptp_gettime).

My NIC support the following time stamp capabilities.

Capabilities:

hardware-transmit     (SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_HARDWARE)

software-transmit     (SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_SOFTWARE)

hardware-receive      (SOF_TIMESTAMPING_RX_HARDWARE)

software-receive      (SOF_TIMESTAMPING_RX_SOFTWARE)

software-system-clock (SOF_TIMESTAMPING_SOFTWARE)

hardware-raw-clock    (SOF_TIMESTAMPING_RAW_HARDWARE)

PTP Hardware Clock: 2

Hardware Transmit Timestamp Modes:

off                   (HWTSTAMP_TX_OFF)

on                    (HWTSTAMP_TX_ON)

Hardware Receive Filter Modes:

none                  (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_NONE)

ptpv1-l4-sync         (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_PTP_V1_L4_SYNC)

ptpv1-l4-delay-req    (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_PTP_V1_L4_DELAY_REQ)

ptpv2-l4-event        (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_PTP_V2_L4_EVENT)

ptpv2-l4-sync         (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_PTP_V2_L4_SYNC)

ptpv2-l4-delay-req    (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_PTP_V2_L4_DELAY_REQ)

ptpv2-l2-event        (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_PTP_V2_L2_EVENT)

ptpv2-l2-sync         (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_PTP_V2_L2_SYNC)

ptpv2-l2-delay-req    (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_PTP_V2_L2_DELAY_REQ)

ptpv2-event           (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_PTP_V2_EVENT)

ptpv2-sync            (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_PTP_V2_SYNC)

ptpv2-delay-req       (HWTSTAMP_FILTER_PTP_V2_DELAY_REQ)

I like to know whether there is any other Intel NIC which have the capability for SOF_TIMESTAMPING_TX_ACK, I require this time stamping to calculate the precise RTT measurement between source and destination.

i210 Gigabit issue !!!

$

Hi Guys,

Looking for some help/inputs in sorting this issue. Basically trying to force 1000Mb/s with the intel i210 nic using the ethtool utility. command was "ethtool -s eth5 speed 1000 duplex full autoneg off". Ensured that link partner is capable of 1000Mb/s and using the cat5e cable. It works fine for 100Mb/s. With the default code, it was NOT working and when I collect the ethtool statistics ; it shows speed/duplex as "unknown".

Later tweaked the kernel (3.12 - igb driver) code in the below sequence by configuring these registers with the below values .

#################################################

E1000_82580_PHY_POWER_MGMT (0x0E14) -> 0x00000000

E1000_CTRL_EXT (0x0018) -> 0x10000000

PHY Register 0 -> 0x4140

PHY Register 9 -> 0x1e00

PHY Register 16 -> 0x5f70

mac->forced_speed_duplex = ADVERTISE_1000_FULL;

phy_reset

reset link/reset adapters

##################################################

Looking for some input on validating the above sequence !!! With the above sequence., even when 1000Mb/s was forced it was at 10Mb/s. As per datasheet, Link speeds are influenced by Power states. But I believe, PHY power management register as shown above was configured with right value (set "disable 1000 in nonD0 states" - 0). Please let me know , if there are other areas (other than power management) that I need to look into which is preventing 1000Mb/S speed.

And below is the output of important registers .

DEVICE STATUS REGISTER(8) - 280303

EXTENDED DEVICE CONTROL REGISTER(18) - 10000000

RSS hashing with UDP multicast

$

I am working on an application which receives a limited number (up to 8) high bandwidth (1-3Gb) UDP multicast streams on Windows.

How can I use RSS to distribute the receive load over the cores of my machine?

I guess I need to change the hashing used for the RSS? Is this possible from user space? Of only in a kernel driver?

Is there documentation/example code available on how to do this?

Thanks,

Tom

I218-V & 1Gbps Full Duplex

$

Hi guys,

I've recently been considering upgrading my internet to a faster cable speed, however before that I need to resolve the issue that I'm having with my I218-V only being able to use at most 100Mbps Full/Half Duplex. As soon as I choose the 1Gbps Full Duplex option, my computer acts as if the network cable is unplugged. This week I bought some new Belkin ethernet cables in case that was the issue, but to no avail.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Daniel.

P.S. I've searched the forum and found several similar issues, but none of the ones that I found were ever resolved, so I thought I'd give it another try.

Hi,

I am using Intel 10 Gig Dual-Port Ethernet PCI Card (BN8110470) ixgbe driver on Ubuntu 14.04 Host.

I was able to create VF's which are listed below from lspci command:

A question about Ethernet Controller XL710 ,witch not expressed clearly in Datasheet:where is the L2tags removed from packet? Before Internal Switch,or after Internal Switch and before Receive Filters,or after Receive Filters? If  the L2tags not removed, can the hash filter get input set correctly as no tag packet? For example, accoding to a packet with no L2tags, the hash filter can get the IP header follow the ethernet header. if a packet with L2tags between  IP headert and ethernet header, can the hash filter correctly get the IP header ?

Does 82599 support configuring multiple VLANs on a VF?

$

Hi,

I started working on Intel 82599 and as a initial step trying to test VLAN configuration on VFs.

I see it only allowing to configure one VLAN per VF. I used following command to configure VLAN 25 for VF0 of port1 (eth2) on my 82599 device.

# ip link set eth2 vf 0 vlan 25

When I try to add one more VLAN 28 using "ip link set rename19 vf 0 vlan 28", I observed it overridden previous VLAN configuration and now the VF is part of VLAN 28 only.

Could you please suggest if we can configure multiple VLANs on a VF; if so, please suggest the necessary configuration.

Thanks in advance.

Note: As it is just experiment, I am trying to use VFs on host itself. I am not assigning these VFs to VMs.

ixgbe 3.21.2 driver for 82599

$

We are trying to upgrade the NIC ixgbe driver to 3.21.2. I noticed that setting of unicast filtering table (ixgbe_set_uta) to all 1s has been removed. This breaks one of the features on the product. We have a VF that needs to be setup in L2 mode to do L2 switching in software and needs to be in promiscuous mode. It is setup / enabled with AUPE and ROPE bits in VMOLR.  I would like to know the implications if this is conditionally brought back that is set UTA table to 1s when the VF is configured in promiscuous mode (L2 mode) and clear it when VF is disable.  Also would like to understand reasoning behind removal of the setting of uta to all 1s.

Thanks in advance.
