I211/I217-V Windows 10 LACP teaming fails

$

Hello,

after the update to Windows 10 (x64, Build 10240) the creation of a teaming group (static or IEEE802.3ad) with a I211+I217-V NIC fails.

Drivers have been upgraded to the latest version available and multiple reinstallations with reboots din't help either. Whenever the group creation wizzard is used and a groupname (several tried), the adapters and LACP have been selected, a Windows pop-up appears to tell me group creation has failed.

However the Windows Device Manager shows a newly created "Intel Advanced Network Services Virtual Adapter", so some kind of configuration seems to get done.

Using Windows 7 SP1 x64 the exact same setup worked flawlessly for months, so Win10/the driver are the likely culprit.

Is anyone experiencing similar problems and/or is this a known bug? Feedback on this issue is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Famaku

Hi all,

I'm terminating IPsec tunned in a VM. VM is assigned a VF from Intel X520.

Is it possible to offload IPsec computations on a VF? or is there any other way to offload the IPsec from a VM directly to physical NIC card (Intel X520)

Can you please point me to a relevant documentation to help on this mater.

Any help would be appreciated.

Problems with Intel XL710, SR-IOV and Openstack

We are attempting to use XL710 together with Openstack, and acceleration using SR-IOV.

With the base drivers provided by Ubuntu 14, VM's can be created but during boot cloud-init fails to create any interfaces with the following error message:

[    7.562357] cloud-init[395]:     ret = functor(name, args)

[    7.563806] cloud-init[395]:   File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/cloudinit/cmd/main.py", line 364, in main_init

When installing the latest drivers available from Intel, VM's can not be created at all. Looking at the OpenStack logs, this error message can be found: "internal error: couldn't find IFLA_VF_INFO for VF 7 in netlink response". Searching for this error on google it seems like there could be problems when creating more than 30 VF's in some older versions of libvirt, but we are only testing with 8 VF's right now.

We are running Ubuntu 14 and Openstack Mitaka. We have tried a later Ubuntu/Openstack version (Ubuntu 16 and OpenStack Newton) but there were problems there too -- unsure if it was the same issue, since the logs are long gone.

We have the latest drivers and firmware updates installed. We do -not- have the i40evf driver installed since that would conflict with the VM claiming VF's according to this document https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/technology-briefs/xl710-sr-iov-config-guide-gbe-linux-brief.pdf .

When configuring SR-IOV we are following the guide on https://docs.openstack.org/mitaka/networking-guide/config-sriov.html

We have some other Intel cards (I can't remember the model) which this works fine for.

Issue with setting smp_affinity on ixgbe cards

Hi,

I am using a Dell PowerEdge R730 with Dual Xeon, each 22 cores, with 6 ixgbe compatible cards, on which I am running Linux with ixgbe driver version 4.4.0-k, using kernel versions both 4.7.10 and 4.9.6.
I am loading the ixgbe modules at boot time, bringing up the interfaces and setting smp_affinity to the cards, using the set_irq_affinity script, so all the possible RxTx IRQs are distributed between all the available cores.
The problem is that it happens, random, but quite often that the smp_affinity setting fails, and I need manually to re-run the script one or more times in order desired settings to be applied. There were also several occasions when the settings were not applied at all, and it took me several reboots to script to start working again.
The problem appears not only randomly as occurrence, but also at random NIC controllers, so I am excluding the possibility of failed HW, since I also changed NICs.

I added some debug messages to track the affinity setting in Linux kernel, and it turns out that most of the times when the setting fails the error that affinity setting function irq_do_set_affinity returns is EBUSY, but also sometimes it returns ENOSPC.

More investigation on the topic showed whenever EBUSY was returned the problem could be overcome with re-running the script. But if the error returned was ENOSPC, it takes several reboots for the problem to disappear.

In order to provide some more details on the system I am attaching two text files with the output of the modinfo of the ixgbe and lspci on the machine.

Can we configure multiple vlan id to a single VF using ip command?

Hi everyone,

I wonder that whether I can confiure multiple vlan id to a single VF in Host OS not guest OS using ip command, other command or modify vlan id of VF in PF driver?

For example, for single vlan id is using ip link set eth0 vf 1 vlan 3

But is there a command like ip link set eth0 vf 1 vlan 3,5?

Many thanks.

Re:I219-V latest Intel Network Gigabit Drivers causes crash on wmiprvse.exe...

Good day.

I hope you can make this thread "unresolved" again. This is still happening...

I updated my Intel i219-v drivers this week from PROWin_v22.1 (driver version 12.15.23.9) to Intel-LAN-22.4.16.0-RS2-20170718.zip which I found on Asus Website (driver version 12.15.25.6). Immediately WMIPRVSE started crashing. I have User-Mode dumps enabled, and after this release I see about 5 dumps a day - I can FTP somewhere if you accept dumps. CoreAgnt.dll is version 22.4.14.0. The Windows Error Reporting Service records this:

Faulting Application Path: C:\Windows\System32\wbem\WmiPrvSE.exe

Problem Event Name: BEX64

Application Name: wmiprvse.exe

Application Version: 6.3.9600.16406

Application Timestamp: 5244fd73

Fault Module Name: CoreAgnt.dll_unloaded

Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0

Fault Module Timestamp: 58fe61c5

Exception Offset: 000007fee4197e88

Exception Code: c0000005

Exception Data: 0000000000000008

When I discovered this I went back to Intel and discovered a new release, so I installed PROWin_v22.6. The CoreAgnt.dll version increased to 22.6.6.0 but it was still crashing.

I downgraded back to PROWin_v22.1 and the problem is gone.

The release notes between 22.1 and 22.6 only speak of enabling ultra low power mode, so according to them I am not missing much. But some bugs were probably corrected, so I would LIKE to be able to use the latest drivers. Features like Large Send Offload are especially problematic and might've seen a few improvements between releases.

When I look in WinDbg I see this:

BUGCHECK_STR:  APPLICATION_FAULT_BAD_INSTRUCTION_PTR_SOFTWARE_NX_FAULT_INVALID

PRIMARY_PROBLEM_CLASS:  BAD_INSTRUCTION_PTR_INVALID

I see NX there; maybe this is related to the fact that I have NoExecute (DEP) enabled for all processes, rather than the Opt-In which is the default? I'm not really in the mood to reInstall the latest drivers, disable DEP and let the machine sit for a day just to see if DEP is the issue - CoreAgnt.dll should not be causing DEP issues...

Thank you.

Unable to Remove Intel NIC Teaming

$

I currently have two Intel NICs teamed as Team #0.

I'm trying to break the team to use each adapter independently, however, when I try to configure the team via "Intel(R) Advanced Network Services Virtual Adapter" I get a vague error, "GetTeamInfo failed" and the "Settings" tab is empty.

I've tried running the ProSetCl command line tool and it tells me there is no Teams installed.

I've also tried uninstalling the "Intel(R) Advanced Network Services Virtual Adapter" adapter and get a different error message "Teams cannot be removed if a virtual NIC is bound to the team. Remove the virtual NIC before deleting the team." As far as I can tell there is no virtual NIC installed on my machine.

How can I force the removal of the Team #0 adapter so that I can use the individual NICs separately? I appreciate any help/guidance you can provide.

Thanks

Ethan

Question regarding RSS Profile as default on Driver(I350)

$

Installed Windows 2012 R2 : RSS Profile : NUMAStatic (Default)

After Installed NIC Driver(I350 4 Port) : RSS Profile : Closest

I want to know why Intel sets RSS Profiles to Closest.

Closest was default value on Windows 2008/R2.

If  you just don't change from Windows 2008/R2, it is fine. I can change.

But I need to know there is any reason.

Actually I need to change to NUMAStatic, but I have concern about to change RSS Profile, if there is any reason to set "Closest' as default.

802.3az (EEE) support on X550-T1/2 NICs

According to the Intel X550 datasheet (1), the controller supports IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE). It's also added as a key feature on the Intel's X550 Product Brief (2). However, it seems that 802.3az support has been silently dropped from the Intel X550-T1/T2 product brief (2) even if a product guide from Lenovo clearly mark this feature as supported. This feature is important for EE datacenters, especially for power-hungry 10GBase-T connectivity. We tried to get EEE working on X550-T1/T2 CNA on various switches without success. It seems this features is disabled or broken. PROSet 21.1 does not include any settings related to EEE.

Can you please give us the current status of 802.3az (EEE) on Intel's X550-T1/T2 CNA?

PS : Additionally, do you have an ETA for NBase-T support on these NICs? According to the product brief, this feature is marked as "to be enabled in a post-launch firmware release".

Audio latency on my DAW "Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (2) I219-V" the culprit???

$

Hello, I recently purchased a new system (running Windows 10 Pro) for music production, whose specs I have just attached down here. I have audio glitches and playing cursor intermittency on my digital audio workstation of choice (Bitwig Studio 2.1.4), but I tested the problem is present even on Ableton Live 9.7.4. After doing some research on the internet I found out that the NIC might be the culprit. And for real as soon as I uninstall the Intel Ethernet Connection either via device manager or via BIOS the lag completely disappears even in complex projects and I noticed this happens even if I just switch the router off. The cursor intermittency can last for over 4 seconds, during the lag nothing on the screens is moving not even the mixer faders. Audio glitches occur more rarely. I tried to update every possible drivers and asked the pc manufacturer for some advice. They think it can't depend on software and that I should substitute the Intel NIC with another brand but I am not quite sure. Bitwig was running perfectly in my old system with full-fledged ethernet load and onto Windows 8.1...

Have a dual socket HP Z840 with NIC attached to CPU1 runing windows server 2016.

Have a X710-DA4 with 22.6 driver installed.

Utilizing 2 ports on NIC, trying to set 1 port to Numa 1, core 0 and Numa 1 core 3.

Using Closest static profile.

Only the first NIC port for Numa 1 core 0 is being "respected.

The second NIC port for Numa 1, core 3 is landing on core 2...

I have tried changing around the second port to be on other cores as well to no avail...

Any idea if there is a bug to numa node base processor core binding?

Each NIC set to max process or 1 and queue 1...

Any suggestions would be appreciated...
