Hi Guys,

I am trying to enable PXE for an Intel 82599EB 10-Gigabit SFI/SFP+ Network card.

I am running Linux CentOS 6.4

lspci | grep -i network
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation I350 Gigabit Network Connection (rev 01)
02:00.3 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation I350 Gigabit Network Connection (rev 01)
82:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82599EB 10-Gigabit SFI/SFP+ Network Connection (rev 01)
82:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82599EB 10-Gigabit SFI/SFP+ Network Connection (rev 01)

I have downloaded the latest "bootutil" [BootUtil version 1.4.17.4]

According to the specs for this type of network chip, it should be able to do PXE booting.

I have enabled Intel 10G cards in the past with the "bootutil" program, but it won't enable this type of card:

./bootutil64e -flashenable -nic=3

[I could not find any info how to put firmware on this card]

Any idea how to enable PXE for this Intel network chip?

Where to get older driver for i340-T4 NIC?

I have a Dell PV500 server running Windows Storage Server 2003 x64 with an i340-T4 NIC that was just knocked off line by a Windows Update of the driver. I downloaded PRO2K3XP_x64.exe version 18.1 in an unsuccessful attempt to bring it back to life. I am now trying to find an older version, circa 2010 or 2011. Can anyone point me to a source of older Intel drivers? Are they hidden somewhere on the Intel site?

I have a Dell 720 Server with a I350-T4 card installed with the latest drivers and firmware running Server 2012 with the HyperV role.  I am having trouble creating a Virtual switch in HyperV that will show SR-IOV enabled.  My main concern with the output below is that the CurrentCapabilities and the HardwareCapabilities are blank.  I believe there is supposed to be a value of MSFT_NetAdapterSriovCapabilities in both fields.  Can someone please point me in the right direction here?

Hi,

I've tried to connect my X520-DA2 to a Netgear GS752TXS using a 7m direct attach cable (Cisco SFP-H10GB-ACU7M) but I get no link.

I've tried both NIC ports and all the SFP+ switch ports.

What could be the problem?

Cheers,

Filipe

Hello,

I am looking for some tech background information about why its not possible to use a x520 card as virtual switch (creating VLAN is disabled as well) that is used for boot from iscsi in hyper-v. is this a limitation by windows, the intel driver (if driver limitation, chances this will change in the future?)?

Thanks

Anyone know if this is possible?  I'm trying to get Resonate to work with a new Intel NIC and Resonate's tech support thinks that this feature is why their product isn't working.  I'm hoping to avoid going out and buying a bunch of old Intel NICs that use older drivers.

Thanks.

SR-IOV on 82599EB 10G-Cards: Packets not filtered by MAC Address

$

Hi everybody,

we are trying to set up FPP using Intel's 82599EB 10-Gbit/s Cards.

Furthermore we are using the ixgbe driver version 3.14.5.

I am loading the driver using

modprobe ixgbe max_vfs=4,4,4,4

and bringing up the wanted virtual interfaces using

ifconfig <interface> <ip>/<suffix> up

But when sending packets to the interfaces from another machine, setting the destination MAC addresses of the packets alternating to the respective MAC adresses of the different virtual interfaces, all packets will nonetheless be captured by only one of those interfaces.

I checked with tcpdump on this interface, whether the received packets are actually carrying the different destination MAC addresses of my virtual interfaces on the targeted machine. And indeed they do.

Why now doesn't each virtual adapter receive exactly those packets carrying their respective MAC addresses as destination MAC address, but all are being captured by the very same virtual adapter, regardless of their MAC address?

Thank you in advance for your hints and best regards,

Richard

Intel 82579LM Gigabit Ethernet - UDP Packet Loss

$

I have a software application that runs on a laptop running Windows 7 SP1 which receives data at around 100Mbps via a UDP stream over a 1GbE connection.  I've run the software on multiple laptops successfully in the past (older network adapters - e.g. 82577LM) .  Recently I installed the software on a newer model laptop which has a 82579LM network adapter.  When running the software on the laptop with the 82579LM adapter.  With the 82579LM adapter I'm seeing approximately one lost packet every 25K-60K packets.

1.  I'm running the version 16.7 (latest) of the Intel Network Drivers

2.  Windows 7 - SP1 + latest updates

3.  I've observed the same behavior on multiple laptop models by different vendors which contain the 82579LM adapter.

Searching the Internet I've seen some postings of issues under Linux complaining about similar 82579LM adapter issues:

http://www.mail-archive.com/e1000-devel@lists.sourceforge.net/msg04765.html

And some more here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/linux/+bug/870127

Since this is running under Windows 7 SP1 we obviously have different drivers but I'm wondering if the issue is related.  Any ideas for things I could try to fix the issue?

Thanks,

Ryan

Dell Optiplex 780 with 82567LM-3

I have a Dell Optiplex with an Intel 82567LM-3 Gigabit ethernet card and using unicast WOL. I have the most recent BIOS with deep sleep disabled and wake from off enabled. The problem is getting the computer to wake with unicast. The option for arp offloading and ns offloading does not appear to be supported by proset or the most recent intel driver with this chipset.

How can we get unicast to wake the computer up?

Edit:

If you recommend a new card, we want it to support Gigabit, AMT, WOL and ARP Offloading and it must be half height, PCI 2.3. Finding a card at the Intel site that matches these requirements has me totally lost. Can anyone recommend one?

Unable to PXE boot guest using SR-IOV VFs

Hello,

Config-centric info:

Using HP BL460C-G8 and 560FLB (82599 based) NIC.  Host and guest OS is RHEL6.4 (latest - 2.6.32-358.2.1.el6.x86_64). Guest is defined SRIOV interfaces, but when booting, the bios doesn't appear to see any NICs  and hence does not pxe boot (seen by examining the BIOS (seabios) output in the console).  BTW, we are using libvirt and KVM.

I believe I need to create an optional ROM to load into libvirt, but when trying to build for ipxe, it fails.  gpxe which ships with RH (latest - gpxe-roms-qemu-0.9.7-6.9.el6.noarch) has a option ROM (e1000-0x100e.rom), but it doesn't help.

Thanks!

Shawn

82599 VF to Linux host bridge

We are configuring VFs for our high-volume network traffic, but want to continue to use Linux bridging for other VMs. Is there some configuration we need to do to enable packets from a VF to be switched to a bridge off the eth0 PF?

We create several VMs. One of them has a high volume of traffic, as it serves as a load balancer. It takes external traffic on one VLAN, and distributes it to other VMs on a different VM. If the different VM is on the same host, the packets are never switched in the 82599 back to the eth0 for feeding into the Linux bridge. We are using Red Hat EL 6.4. We have been able to get VM to VM traffic working on the same host, if both VMs use VFs, but are unable to get VM to VM traffic if one is using VF and the other is using bridges.

Suggestions?

etnerCan any of the following 3 NetEffect 10Gbe Ethernet Adapters that use PCIe v1.1 x8 lane be used on a Dell 2950 II that has PCIe v1.0 with an open x8 slot? I have not been able to find any other 10Gbe network adapter that supported anything less than PCIe 2.0+ so if this will work I can purchase my 10GbE iSCSI storage array.

Does the I340-F4 support 100base-FX SFP modules

$

We am looking for a quad port PCI express card with 100base-FX interfaces, under Windows 7 32-bit. Does the I340-F4 support 100base-FX SFP modules?

I am not sure if SFP modules are plug-and-play for different speeds / wavelengths.

As background, we currently are using I340-T4 cards with external media convertors between copper and the external 100base-FX systems, and are looking for a replacement card with support for 100base-FX so can avoid the need to user media convertors. The required number of ports, and available motherboard slots, limit us to quad port PCI express cards.

Bonding with active-loadbalancing mode on Intel 82599 SRIOV VF within VM

Hi Folks,

We are trying to bond two SRIOV VF's (coming out of two different PF's) within a Linux VM in active loadbalance mode using linux bonding driver. This is primarily to have high-availability across the links/switches & without losing out on the bandwidth/performance of the links.

One of the issue we hit upon is the driver constantly printing "Spoofed packets detected" & the bond doesnt work at all. Is this is due to the active-load-balance mode sending the same mac across the VF's & at HW level they are considered as spoofed packets? Is recompiling ixgbe with mac-spoofing disabled the only option for this? Or is there some way to get around this problem?

We in fact tried to change to active-backup mode with fail_over_mac (in bonding driver) set to active/follow modes. But even in that case the failovers dont seem to happen.

Have anybody tried bonding SRIOV VF's within Linux VM (especially active-load-blance) & got it working? If so, can you pls share your thoughts on this?

Thanks.

Im using Intel 82599eb 10G controller, i want to implement PTP (IEEE 1588) on it, can any one guide how to implement it and do we require any extra hardware for it, and how can i incorporate it with PTP software in linux.

My doubts are:

do we need extra high resolution clock support,

do we need extra time stamping unit,

how to integrate both hardware and software time stamping.

No Internet Access with Intel Team

I have been struggling immensely lately with creating a Link Aggregation with two of my Intel NIC's. I have three ethernet adapters.

I have an on-board 82574L, an on-board 82579LM, and a PCI-e Intel CT card. Initially I had tried to create a dynamic link aggregation team with the 82574L and the CT. I am using this team to connect to a Cisco SG200-08 switch with LAG configured that also connects a NAS drive.

My problem comes when I start my computer and try to access the internet. My NAS drive connects just fine and my network connection shows Internet Access but when I launch a web browser it says it cannot connect.

I have no idea of knowing if this is a problem with my switch, Uverse router, Apple Airport Extreme or computer team.

So many different settings and options not sure what to check first. Seems like I change one thing, reboot and it works to only restart my computer later to have it not work again. I have changed so many settings and options I am now tempted to default everything back just to have a neutral starting point.

All these IT terms are making my head swim. Spanning Tree, LACP, DHCP, dynamic, static, IP addresses oh my!!@@@@!!!@

Here is a pic of my setup.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Toby
