Intel Server NIC I350 LACP IEEE802.3ad teaming issue

Hello

I face an issue which i cannot resolve for almost month even with the help of intel support.

I have:

Intel Server System R1208GL4DS with buildin I350 4 ports inet adapter

OS: Windows Server 2008 R2

NIC drivers ver 18.4 (PRO set with ANS)

Data Center provides ieee802.3ad dynamic aggregation teaming connection, It uses 2 ports on my server (0 and 3)

DC uses Cisco Nexus switches

SpanningTreeProtocol is ON and cannot be switched off by DC.

Problem:

One of the adapters suddenly goes on standby state and doesnot pass traffic.

As the result the whole connectivity to server and to services I use stuck at that moment.

There is only one way to resolve is to restart server or restart whole team by changing the team properties.

Nic properties:

flow control off

ofloads off

rss off

Team:

I have tried to change everything playing with any property within nic or team. No luck.

Please advise as I'm almost stuck.

Thank you.

SR-IOV dropping packets when *other* VFs are configured

Hi,

I've been doing some testing using an HP Ethernet 1Gb 2p 361T Adapter in a DL380p Gen8. The software used is CentOS 6.4 and igb 4.3.0 and igbvf 2.3.2 Intel drivers. I've noticed that when a VF NIC is under load (typically reading multicast at 80-110 MB/s), the packets can get dropped when one or more of the following are performed against different VFs on the same card:

 • ethtool -G
 • vconfig
 • ip link set up dev eth1.NNN
 • python sock.setsockopt(socket.IPPROTO_IP, socket.IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP,mreq) call

Is this to be expected?

Thanks in advance,

Teaming of windows 2008 r2

Hello Folks,

I have teamed my production lan with two adapters (onboard and adapter nic) for my cluster production network (windows 2008 r2)

http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-009747.htm

Based on the selected teaming policy I have initially used adaptive load balancing (ALB). with onboard as primary adapter, secondary is on the adapter nic giving me a 2 GB link (active active).. But i have notice on the cluster end these error logs are seen

System Event logs:

We received 1127 and 1129

08/20/2013 11:36:40 PM Error 1127 Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering Network Manager NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Cluster network interface - Production LAN' for cluster node on network 'Production' failed. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.

08/20/2013 11:36:40 PM Error 1129 Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering Network Manager NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Cluster network 'Production' is partitioned. Some attached failover cluster nodes cannot communicate with each other over the network. The failover cluster was not able to determine the location of the failure. Run the Validate a Configuration wizard to check your network configuration. If the condition persists, check for hardware or software errors related to the network adapter. Also check for failures in any other network components to which the node is connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges.

To prevent the issue from occurring.. I realized it is the teaming issue causing the problem which i disabled one side of the NIC and so far it is working fine... What would be the recommended teaming policy? My core switch is a active-active design whereby one of NIC goes to each switch for redundancy... Is Adaptive Load Balancing recommended still? or Switch Fault Tolerance?

Current driver version used : 11.14.44.0

Win8 Hyper-V and i217-V Support

Hi Everyone,

I seem to be having a major problem using Hyper-V networking and the Intel LAN chipset that comes on my motherboard. To setup networking to my Virtual Machines on Hyper-V, I have to configure a virtual network switch. The minute I set it up with the Intel LAN connection, Windows 8 freezes and goes into the infamous Blue Screen Of Death with a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION . After rebooting, my login will freeze with the same error. The only way I can recover is a System Restore.

Has anyone experienced this issue and has a workaround to configure networking to their Hyper-V VMs with the i217-V LAN chip?

Best way to handle mismatched ixgbe & ixgbevf drivers for SR-IOV

$

We run into some issues when setting up a special VM (customized Linux) with Intel SR-IOV support enabled. The issues are:

 1. We have to manually set MAC addresses for VFs

 2. We have to manually change PF or VF MTU to make PF's is greater than or equal to VF's

Or else no traffic gets through VF interfaces in VM.

- For issue #1:

We found that the matched ixgbevf for our host Linux's ixgbe driver (version 3.17.3) is newer than the shipped ixgbevf in VM. It sounds like Intel moved the feature of setting VF MAC addresses from ixgbe to ixgbevf (VF MACs are set If I install the matched ixgbevf (version 2.10.3) to the VM).

Can someone confirm my guess or detail why this happens? What is the best way to deal with it?

- For issue #2:

We found that, for Intel 2p X520 card, I have to make sure PF MTU is greater than or equal to VF MTU.

Is this the limitation added to the newer ixgbe driver? Is this only for 82599-based adapters?

82579LM Missing ProSet Tabs in Device Manager

Hi All,

I'm trying to get the ability to create vlans on my Windows 7 64bit laptop which has an Intel 82579LM Gigabit network card. I've installed the latest ProSet drivers (device manager showing 12.6.45.0, and during installation I made sure Advanced Networking Services was checked. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall, but still no additional tabs, no advanced tab either. I've read this article, but the WMI service was already running:

Network Connectivity — Intel PROSet configuration tabs are missing

Any ideas of what the issue may be or what I can try to get access to the Proset tabs to create vlans on my laptop? Thanks

How to use unsupported SFP+ modules on Intel X520-DA2 on Windows?

$

Hi,

I've got a bunch of Intel X520-DA2 NICs we'd like to use with Cisco and other third party SFP+ modules. Under Linux, there is an unsupported flag we can pass to the kernel module to disable this enforcement however there doesn't seem to be anything similar for Windows users.

Is there a workaround to use these unsupported modules with the Intel X520 series NICs?

Cheers!

The problem of VLAN and Ping when using the SR-IOV function of 82599

When I use the SR-IOV function of 82599, I allocated a VF to a VM under the XEN monitor in the host, and I have the following questions:

 1. Can the VM receive the frame with the VLAN tag head?
 2. Can the SR-IOV function of 82599 support FCoE( Fibre Channel over Ethernet)?
 3. When I replaced the switch which is directly connected to the host from Brocade 8000 to Brocade VDX 6730, the ixgbe driver have error messages like this:

ixgbe 0000:84:00.0: eth2: NIC Link is Up 10 Gbps, Flow Control: RX/TX

ixgbe 0000:84:00.0: eth2: detected SFP+: 5

ixgbe 0000:84:00.0: eth2: NIC Link is Up 10 Gbps, Flow Control: None

ixgbe 0000:84:00.0: eth2: detected SFP+: 5

ixgbe 0000:84:00.0: eth2: NIC Link is Up 10 Gbps, Flow Control: RX/TX

ixgbe 0000:84:00.0: eth2: detected SFP+: 5

ixgbe 0000:84:00.0: eth2: NIC Link is Up 10 Gbps, Flow Control: None

ixgbe 0000:84:00.0: eth2: detected SFP+: 5

and it repeated again and again. In addition, the host with the 82599 NIC can not ping other hosts. But everything turns normal without the SR-IOV function.

I’m very confused with all the problems and I desired to know how to resolve them.

X520-2 / 82599 card in Windows 2008 server slow performance question

$

We just purchased an x520-2 (newest driver) to put in our Dell NX3100 NAS (Win 2008 Storage Server x64, fully patched) to send data across a backend switch (Dell Powerconnect 6224 w/10Gb SFP+ module) to a Centos 6 x64 bioinformatics server (also w/the same x520-2 card). However, when we put the card in and began to test with iperf (and netperf), we are consistently seeing pretty low performance (ie., never above 2Gb/sec w/iperf just set "iperf -s" and "iperf -c 10.0.0.x".

We noticed that on the NX3100 iperf always defaults to a window size of 64k, while our linux box window size is dependent on our settings in sysctl (currently it defaults to 4M/16M). If we run something like "iperf.exe -s -w 4M" / "iperf -c 10.0.0.x -w 4M" we can get improved numbers, but I'm not sure the real meaning of that (ie., it isn't trustworthy as a measure of what we are needing/wanting).

My question is tuning the Windows box, specifically things like TcpWindowSize. There is a significant amount of conflicting info out there regarding how this is done on Win2008/7 now that autotuning is enabled (ie, some say it ignores any TcpWindowSize regedits one makes, some dont). I can say that we have had very little success in making changes that we feel actually make any difference on the windows side.

Can someone definitively tell me how that tuning is done on the Windows side? (not just "turn autotuning to disabled") We are getting a bit frustrated.

Any help is much appreciated,

Stephen

Unable to PXE boot guest using SR-IOV VFs

Hello,

Config-centric info:

Using HP BL460C-G8 and 560FLB (82599 based) NIC. Host and guest OS is RHEL6.4 (latest - 2.6.32-358.2.1.el6.x86_64). Guest is defined SRIOV interfaces, but when booting, the bios doesn't appear to see any NICs and hence does not pxe boot (seen by examining the BIOS (seabios) output in the console). BTW, we are using libvirt and KVM.

I believe I need to create an optional ROM to load into libvirt, but when trying to build for ipxe, it fails. gpxe which ships with RH (latest - gpxe-roms-qemu-0.9.7-6.9.el6.noarch) has a option ROM (e1000-0x100e.rom), but it doesn't help.

Thanks!

Shawn

Intel 82579LM drops to 10Mbps from Gigabit, refuses to go back

$

Ive got the Intel DQ67EP board with the Intel 82579LM onboard NIC. Ive got the machine running Windows7 64bit. Ive got this problem where randomly it drops from Gigabit to 10Mbps and will never negoiate back to gigabit. I can disconnect the cable, reconnect it, dont work. I can plug that same cable into another machine like my Lenovo T420 laptop, and it has no issues connecting gigabit, so I know its not the cable, or port, or Hub. However still plugged into a different port of the hub, still dont work. Plugged it into a different hub, still dont work, still keeps sitting at 10Mbps.

Ive rebooted it, still negoiates at 10Mbps. Shut the PC down, wait 1min, turn it on, still sitting at 10Mbps. So at this point dont believe its driver. I have the latest 16.5 running on the Windows.

ONLY way I can get this working is one of two ways. I have to unplug power, not just shut it down. I need to kill power from the board entirely. Wait 10secs, then plug it back in. Then upon starting up, its set to gigabit with no issues. Other way is to change a setting in Bios which when you exit/save it causes it to kill power to the board for a second. So the fact that killing power to the board fixes it, tells me its some hardware or firmware level issue, clearly not the driver.

Now to explain when it happens, I do have the machine set to sleep and wake at certain times. Most of the time it sleeps fine, wakes up fine and still sits at Gigabit. Theres no explanation on how many times it takes before it decides to go into some stuck state of only negoiating at 10Mbps. Even going into Device Manager and setting it to 100Mbps, or 1000Mbps, Half or Full duplex does nothing. It disconnects the Link and Reconnects but only sits at 10Mbps. Im normally connected via the IntelAMT via RealVNC.

Ive updated from the 0054 bios to 0055 last week so Im also on the latest Bios revision.

What causes this to get in such a stuck state that only killing power to the board fixes this?

OS2BMC configuration

How can I view the current settings for OS2BMC and packet filtering configuration for the I350 and/or X540 dual Ethernet controllers?

Is there a way to see the EEPROM settings directly? Do I need extra software to issue NC-SI OEM commands?

I'd like to be able to inspect and change the settings from Windows and/or Linux.

Thanks.

Intel LAN driver latency problems

Every now and then, sound and mouse jerk on my Windows 7 x64 SP1 for a couple of seconds.

LatencyMon shows a possible problem with network adapter.

When I enable Driver Verifier for e1q62x64.sys (12.7.27.0), i get a BSOD "SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION".

I'm using Intel's LAN driver version 18.5.

I have this issue with both on-board dual 82754L as with PCI-E Intel CT Card, so it's not a hardware problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to address this problem ?

Thank you.

82579V + 16.8 drivers = strange behavior ?

$

Hello,

I have been using my ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe/GEN3 mobo for some time with Intel's 16.7 drivers. I noticed that 16.8 drivers were released, installed them and problems began:

- upon each reboot NIC is randomly detected either as 82579V (properly) or as 82579LM (not properly)

- if NIC is detected as LM version then on next reboot Intel PXE BIOS appears on the screen during mobo initialization while corresponding option (Intel NIC BIOS) is NOT enabled in UEFI BIOS settings

- sometimes after reboot NIC cannot detect that link is up - I had to replug the Ethernet cable to detect connection

I reverted back to 16.7 drivers and everything is OK again.

Has anybody noticed similar behavior with similar setup ?

Intel I350 NIC Teaming Issue

Afternoon,

When I team the Four Ports on an Intel I350 Adapter together in Static or Dynamic Mode the Ports on the Network Card drop connection within 1 minute periods and then gets connection again.

I have removed the team and the ports stay on fine, but when teamed together they start losing connection and Event Errors:

E1rexpress

iANSMiniport

Basically using the 4 ports for LACP for our Backup Services for this server, but if the NIC Connects are flaky then the Backup Job fails!

I've tried googling this but keep hitting the same brick wall.

The server is Windows 2003 R2 x32 and the Intel Drivers: 12.7.28.0

Teaming Setup as: IEEE 802.3ad Dynamic

Any help on this would be great.

Many Thanks

Gerard
