PTP/IEEE 1588 one-step capable NICs

$

Hi everyone,

I've been looking for some time now, even studying the driver code, but I have not been able to figure it out yet. I know that there are IEEE1588 capable NICs that Intel offers. But it seems as if most just support timestamping at the MAC level, and then sending a follow-up message with this timestamp, i.e., the two-step process. So the simple question is: are there one-step capable NICs? Especially datacenter NICS (10 or 40GE)?

Thanks

I210 Flash map issue

Hi Sir,

Some I210 flash maps have three types offsets, Flash Word Offsets, Global MNG Offset & Offset. What meanings are for them?

For example: SMBus 0 slave address  Flash Word Offsets: 0x51, Global MNG Offset: 0x06, Offset: 0x03, Bit[7:1]

what is real flash address? How to check this value by Intel Lanconf View Flash tool?

Please kindly help it. thanks!

40 sec negotiation with X540-T1 with Cisco Nexus 3172TQ

Hi,

Have a client experiencing the following issue - when they boot or reboot a workstation, the LAN adapter takes 40+ seconds to negotiate with the LAN switch before it connects.

Details:

Workstations are Windows 7 Pro with Intel Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X540-T1 running SSD drives. So they boot within seconds, and when the users go to sign on, system connects before network is available, thus network maps are not completed, etc. Once the system negotiates the link and is online, a log off / log on cycle works properly. (And the users tend to forget between system reboots that they need to be patient. Thus wasted support calls troubleshooting.)

Switch is Cisco Nexus 3172TQ (48 port 10GBase-T)

Cisco firmware has been patched recently.

Any suggestions on what to focus on / investigate in depth? Opening a case with Cisco as well. Will also look for Cisco commands etc.

Thanks

i210 FLUPD bit set by write to EEWR? / datasheet description for EELOADCTL and EELOADERR

$

Hello,

I've got an i210 connected to an SoC and for production I'd like to write the external eeprom via PCIe:

- I map the config space and access the IO area via the config space registers 0x98/0x9C

- The semaphore and sync between FW/SW seems to work

- I write the config (0x80 16bit words) to the SRAM and can read it back, checksum is 0xbaba

Triggering the flash write via FLUPD fails: FLUPD is already set to one by the first write to the SRAM?

After the first SRAM write via EEWR, EEC reads: 0x482a00, is this correct?

When will FLUPD be reset? By whom?

Also I'd like some more documentation on two registers:

Chapter 8.4.2 describes EELOADCTL:

This register provides software EEPROM-mode load status.

All bits are RW to FW, RO to host - excepted to bit 12.

Then it gives a short table for bit0 all ohters are reseved, a second, completely different table describes bits 0:32.

In chapter 8.4.5 EELOADCTL is described a second time with a single sentence.

EELOADERR is in chapter 8.4.4 but there's no description of the bits (table missing?)

Can you please provide me the missing/correct tables for these registers?

Best regards,

Lo

I217 support removed from the UEFI Ethernet Driver

I tried using the 20.7 UEFI Ethernet Driver E7006X3.EFI, but I see that I217 support has been removed.  Why?

I need I217-LM support in this driver.

Going back I see the last time it was in the Driver was version 20.0, E6604X3.EFI.

Can I217 support please be added back into future builds?

Thank You

hi, i would like to report that the new intel nic drivers version 19.3 that just released recently has huge 6000+ dpc latency spike once in a few secs.

my specs

windows 7 SP1 32bit + lastest windows update

i downgrade to intel nic drivers previous version 19.1 and the problem is just gone.

I have a problem very similar or identical to that experienced by nh29 here
i218-LM code 10 after restart without cable

Since purchasing my Let's Note laptop PC CF-LX3 I have been unable to connect to wired land only wifi.

I eventually got around to having a look in the device manager (I had thought that the problem must be mine since I had the problem from new)

In the device manager the driver for my Ethernet Chip has the yellow triangle and exclamation mark.

i am told that I have a can't start due to  Code 10.

I have tried installing your latest drivers from your site

Download Intel® Network Adapter Driver for Windows 8.1*

and installing them by first extracting them using 7-Zip and browsing to the 64 bit drivers using the method described on reddit here

ethernet driver issue : techsupport

I also tried letting the Device manage find drivers on the Internet (which told me that I had the most up to date drivers installed)

Add I also downloaded the Win81_64_d135311 file from my computer manufacturers site here in Japan

Let's note CF-LX3シリーズ 導入済みドライバー | パナソニック パソコンサポート

In all cases I am told that the driver installed but the the device can not be started

the driver was installed but

"this device cannot start. (Code 10)"

In all cases I uninstalled and deleted the previous drivers first.

Like nh29 I have a degree in electronic engineering (thought I am not chartered) .

On nh29's thread it was suggested that this has something to do with the Ultra Low Power settings. I am not sure how to turn these off.  You send a tool to nh29 apparently after which he did not respond to the thread above so perhaps that cured things for him.

I see that in the Power Plan settings there are Intel CPPC Energy Efficient Optimization but in both they are now set to Plugged in Disabled, and Aggressiveness when plugged in at 0%

(I could have sworn that earlier today these settings were different! Perhaps one of the more recent drivers that I installed changed the settings).

My system is Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit Japanese (GUI language English)

The device manager says

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}

The requested operation was unsuccessful.

In the advanced settings

Wake on Link is Off

and (aha) "Low power Ethernet" was on. I set it to off and disabled, then re-enabled the device but it still says Code 10.

The other thing that surprises me is that under driver details the files are in the Windows sub folder "System32" is that as it should be?

C\windows\system32\Drivers\e1d64x64.sys

and the following three files in the same location

e1dmsg.dll

NicCo36.dll (this is the oldest file in system32)

NicINstD.dll

According to the page below the first file e1d64x64.sys is an Intel "Gigabit" driver (sounds right)

What is e1d64x64.sys from Intel Corporation? (id:21427853)

And the version number of the driver in my Device manager is the same as that mentioned on the page above

12.9.16.0

Intel 82566DC-2 not functioning, questions

$

Hey there,

I'm quite well versed with issues pertaining wired and wireless networking but this issue has had me stumped for quite a while - almost a week. I tried creating an account on these parts but was denied access until today. Thankfully I've managed to create an account and hope that the issue could come to some manner or form of disclosure.

First off system's specs:

Intel E6750 @ stock w/stock(copper slugged) cooler

Intel DG33FB

2x1GB Transcend DDR2 ram sticks

1x 160GB Seagate HDD

1x 640GB Samsung HDD

1x Asus DVD Writer
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

400W cheap PSU

El cheapo Chinese Chassis

The system belongs to a friend of mine and while I was instructed to perform a reinstall of Windows 7 on the machine, I thought I'd try and update the rest of the internals by either

a| BIOS updates

b| latest software/drivers meant for the board

c| make the onboard LAN active even though the system is connected wirelessly via a USB dongle.

or all the above.

Upon scouring Intel's product support page, I managed to update BIOS from version 0216 to version 0572 while I was able to pool the latest drivers from the aforementioned support site with a few more off here and there. Realtek had the latest audio drivers so that is where I naturally sourced the latest drivers. An issue became apparent when I couldn't log on to the www in spite of having an ethernet wire hooked to the ethernet port. I could clearly see that the power status LED was well lit(green) though the second status LED was not showing any form of activity. Mind you the drivers used for the Intel ethernet adapter was Intel Pro v20.1. I figured that the drivers might be the issue here, proceeded to uninstall and then reinstall the drivers using a previous version v15.3 but the same issue presented itself. I went over to Device Manger and there I see a device under the Networking tab with a yellow exclamation mark flagging an issue. U[on right clicking and entering into properties, the first tab showed that the device cannot start with an "error code 10" displayed. If I disabled the NIC in Device Manger and tried to find a solution in Network adapter settings, I notice that the device pops up but is shown to be disabled. In excitement I enabled the device in Network Manager but upon a refresh the device disappears.

When disabled I can right click on the NIC and sift through it's properties albeit are inactive/greyed out. I've tried uninstalling the device drivers from both Device Manger and Control Panel while using device driver files found off a Microsoft WHQL driver pack v17.4(courtesy of Intel) and although the drivers for the culprit NIC is installed with 82566DC-2 being detected I'm unable to get any use out of it. With the NIC enabled and showing the yellow exclamation mark, I ran ipconfig/all in an elevated CMD and couldn't find the NIC. I double checked by connecting the Realtek USB wireless dongle and the dongle popped up without flinching. I also tried pinging 127.0.0.1 with the same results always and there is no data loss. I've also removed CMOS battery for 30+mins before replacing it yet no dice. Why is this behaving like that? I did clean out the ethernet port using a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol, cleaning it off of lint and dust.

I'm stumped at this issue and can't get the system to log onto the internet since my router just gave up the ghost. I've disabled the NIC in BIOS while removing traces of the drivers files on the OS. I will perform a clean install again if necessary although I've done it 3 times. Ruled out a corrupt installer and recreated the installer multiple times with an ISO I had back when Windows 7 was available from Digital River. If there is some form of disclosure to this madness then I'd be grateful for the time input to this thread. I don't mind leaving it disabled but I'd like to pass on the news to my friend due to reasons of trust.

Best Regards,

Lutfij

82574 is not recognized by PCIe bus ...

I have some problems regarding the WG82574 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet controller. I used it according to its sample schematics. However, it could not be recognized on PCIe bus. It should be added that the EEPROM connected to this IC have not programmed yet. However, I expected that the IC should be recognized without using the EEPROM. The schematic of this IC in my design is attached.

Windows 10 x520 slow network

I've recently installed a x520-da1 in a Windows 10 workstation. Using iperf to connect to a freebsd server i'm getting connection speed of 1.03Gb/s. Using the same Windows workstation I booted a Fedora installation and ran iperf on that and had a connection speed of 9.4Gb/s. It seems the issue here is directly related to Windows 10.

The freebsd server and workstation are directly connected on their own subnet. x520 has (I believe) the latest driver which is 3.10.162.1.

[e1000e/82579LM] Speed up network reachability on resume

$

Hello all,

For research purposes I am trying to improve the resume latency of a Linux machine, and specifically I need to speed up its network responsiveness when it wakes up from suspend-to-RAM. I have managed to get a latency of about 3s for now and I am looking for clues to further shorten this delay.

My setup includes an Intel 82579LM Gigabit NIC, which is controlled by the e1000e driver in the Linux kernel (the computer runs ArchLinux). For now it is only linked to my laptop so I have full control over the network characteristics.

On this setup, DHCP is disabled, as well as auto-negotiation; link speed and duplex mode are forced to 100Mbps full duplex. These (somewhat unrecommended) settings allow for a response time of about 3s on resume. This time is obtained by querying a very light HTML page via an Apache server running on the target machine.

So now I need to find other ways to shorten the delay. According to dmesg, the driver itself only takes about 50ms to wake up, and it is the restoration of the link that takes up a lot of time. Essentially, I need some ideas to quicken the process to restore the Ethernet link.

What is important here is that the NIC is waking up from suspend-to-RAM (and WoL enabled of course) so it might be interesting to avoid some steps when setting it up again because it is safe to assume the network hasn't changed during the sleep period. In the ideal case I would like a way to either keep the link up when the NIC goes to sleep (it stays almost awake because of the wake-on-LAN after all) or to have the link immediately available on resume.

So here I am asking for your help. If you have any hints about how these suggestions could be achieved, or any other idea about this, please answer And thank you!
